Shirking genre expectations and carving his own distinct path, the 52 year-old artist has flourished with a special blend of genre-crossing tunes – everything from R&B to pop to Latin music infusions – blossoming from a Latin session player in the ‘90s to a prolific and acclaimed solo artist in New York over the last 15 years. His ninth and most recent album, Bad Ass and Blind, earned him his first Grammy nomination, for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
